As Integrative Therapists we are trained to provide a range of therapeutic approaches to ensure you are heard and the right support is offered. These approaches include (though not limited to) Person-centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Psychodynamic Therapy.
Instead of treating a symptom in isolation, therapy helps to address the cause of our distress and the behaviour patterns that are not helping us. It is well established that the long-term solution to mental and emotional problems and the pain they cause cannot always be solved solely by medication. In some cases a combination of medication and therapy can be the right course of action. This involves working in collaboration with your GP.
All sessions are safe, private and confidential, where a range of often difficult thoughts, feelings and emotions can be expressed. Only if there is a serious risk to the client, or if another person was at risk, would confidentiality be broken. This includes any occasion where the therapist was liable to civil or criminal court proceedings if information regarding a client was disclosed. If it is possible, any break in confidentiality would always be discussed with the client first.
At Sojourn we adhere to the BACP Code of Ethics for Counsellors and Psychotherapists. We keep all records and notes in line with advice and guidance provided, and adhere to the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
We understand that no two people arrive for counselling or psychotherapy for the same reason, with the same needs, or on the same schedule! We therefore provide both short and open ended counselling and can be flexible with appointment scheduling. Evening and weekend sessions may be available.
Most people face challenges at some stage in their lives with issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, and relationships. It is a common misconception to think that only seriously ill people need counselling help. Many studies have shown the benefits of counselling. If you are considering being seen by a counsellor then this may be an indication that you probably could benefit from the experience.
Counselling and psychotherapy is beneficial for anyone interested in getting the most out of their lives by creating greater self-awareness, taking responsibility and working towards change in their lives.
Unless otherwise agreed, all sessions last 50 minutes. An Initial Consultation can be conducted over the phone and is free of charge. Following this there is no obligation on your part to continue with our services.
